Songkran Festival is a celebration of the Thai New Year that has its origins in non-canonical Buddhist folklore. It also marks the movement of the Sun from the Zodiac sign Pisces to Aries and usually the celebrations start from 13th April every year and last until 15th April. This is similar to the Tamil and Hindu new year celebrations in countries like Sri Lanka and India. However, unlike former, during Songkran people engage in playing with water and splashing each other with water to symbolically wash away the misfortunes of the past year and welcome the new year with a fresh start.
This year, I collaborated with a few other photographers on a photoshoot based on the theme of Songkran. This is a collection of photographs that I captured during this shoot.
